In his free time, Socialry Marketing founder Jack Fleming rallies local business owners while occasionally shouting into his AirPods at 70 mph. Why? Because Jack thinks Wilmington’s startups should be heard, and marketing is about “yelling” on behalf of your clients.
Putting Inspiration into Practice:
Jack, a UNCW alumnus with a background in film and business, founded Socialry five years ago. With a creative flair, the agency manages everything from web design and videography to social media and branding.
He didn’t stop there, though. As a volunteer organizer and facilitator for the 1 Million Cups chapter in Wilmington, Jack runs a weekly event that provides early-stage startups with a platform, feedback, and a shared roadmap for success. The format is informal, inclusive, and consists of 20 minutes of audience Q&A after six-minute company presentations.
Presenting Phrayz – The Best Friend of a Marketer:
Through the day-to-day challenges of running a social media marketing company, Jack needed a tool to help Socialry. He created a content intelligence tool, Phrayz. It summarizes the news, compiles newsletters tailored to a certain industry, and even creates outlines for blogs, social media posts, and video scripts.
The objective is to free you from social media noise and inbox overload so you can concentrate on what really counts, producing excellent content. Phrayz is appropriate for marketing firms, internal marketing departments, and anyone who regularly produces content (business owners, real estate brokers, and insurance experts).
Wilmington’s Startup Scene:
Jack isn’t the only person creating a stir. He says Wilmington’s local vibe gives him a sense of community and energy. By regularly attending startup events in Charlotte, Charleston, Raleigh, and Myrtle Beach, Jack is able to network with other businesses, chat with investors, and advocate for Wilmington. He states on Wilmingtonbiz.com that the city’s startup ecosystem “Swings for the fences, and fights above our weight classes.”
Lessons for Small Businesses:
-Raise your voice, proudly and loudly.
If you don’t amplify your message, the marketing equivalent of shouting into traffic, your audience won’t hear you.
–Create a sense of community by giving back.
Both presenters and attendees can benefit from the exposure and feedback that events like the Million Cups provide.
-Use tools to boost productivity.
Tools for aggregation and summarization, such as Phrayz, can help you produce content more regularly and strategically by sifting through noise.
